Thanks for Stopping By!

Thanks to all of you who took the time to stop in to our booth at the Saratoga Springs Woodworker’s Showcase.  It was a busy weekend, for sure.  Our featured demonstrations on Mortise and Tenon Joints and Making a Shooting Board were well attended both days.  The booth was bustling with activity and demonstrations in creating dovetail joints, carving, creating raised panels with a hand plane, timber-framing and fine instrument making.   Up next?  Our annual open house is scheduled for April 25th from 10am-noon.  You can sign up to attend at our classes page    ...

Timber Framing Class (with video)

We always enjoy our Introduction to Timber Framing Class here at Maplewood.    Participants spent three days building a timber-framed sawhorse that incorporates three traditional timber framing joints, including the angled knee brace.    This is a “hand-tool only” workshop, so beams are crosscut with hand saws and mortises are drilled with antique beam drills (otherwise know as a “boring” machine or beam auger). Maplewood instructor Nick Richards uses traditional layout and joinery methods to allow participants to see and experience how craftspeople built homes and...
